An online sale gone wrong when the seller was attacked and robbed was upgraded to murder today after the victim died.
Ross Houllis, 28, died in hospital after being assaulted near Fairfield, in Wakeley, on Friday evening.
A man who had been arrested and charged on Saturday with grievous bodily harm this morning had charges changed to murder.
Mr Houllis had arranged to meet with a potential buyer of an item he was selling online at a shopping centre on Bulls Road, Wakeley.
However he was approached by two men in the car park of the shopping centre, who then demanded cash before allegedly assaulting him and dragging him through the car park.
Police claim the men knocked Mr Houllis to the ground and seriously assaulted him before fleeing in a Toyota Hilux.
Witnesses to the robbery contacted emergency services, who attended the scene a short time later, with NSW Ambulance paramedics taking him to hospital in a critical condition.
Mr Houllis could not be saved and died on Monday despite the efforts of medical staff.
Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command, conducted inquiries which led to the set up of a crime scene and was examined by specialist forensic officers.
Detectives seized a Toyota Hilux after executing a search warrant, as part of inquiries, with the assistance of the Tactical Operations Unit at a unit on Marion Street, Bankstown, on Saturday.
Later that afternoon, a 27-year-old man attended Bankstown Police Station, where he was arrested and charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.
He appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday and was formally refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today, where the charges were changed to murder.
Detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Houllis’ murder under Strike Force Antas.
