Nearly four decades after John Wayne Gacy’s conviction, the land that contained the house where he murdered 33 victims and buried 29 of them is now up for sale.
After being knocked down, dug up, rebuilt and refurbished, it is now on sale for just under $500 000.
The property was torn down in 1979 just before his conviction, and a three bedroom house was built in its place.

The land situated east of O’Hare Airport was bought by a Chicago woman for $30,544 for her elderly parents in 1986. Not knowing the property’s dark history she proceeded to have a house built there.
The real estate brochure describes it as a ‘beautiful brick home,’ with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an updated kitchen overlooking the backyard.

Gacy was one of America’s most ruthless and notorious serial killers. Known as the ‘killer clown’ he murdered 33 young men and teenagers between 1972 and 1978 in Cook County, Illinois, sexually assaulting and torturing them first.
All of his known murders were committed within his Norwood Park ranch house, with 29 victims buried on site. The others were dumped in the Des Plaines River, near his home.

Gacy was convicted of 33 murders and sentenced to death on March 13, 1980, before spending 14 years on death row awaiting execution.
Gacy, who worked in construction and as a children’s entertainer, who dressed as a clown, was executed via lethal injection. He would lure his victims to his house by impersonating a police officer or promising them construction work. Some he found hitchhiking or waiting at bus stops.
He restrained his victims by using handcuffs, (a trick learnt while acting as a clown). Once they were secured, his “friendly” smile disappeared and his predatory side came out as he sexually assaulted his victims and then strangled many with a rope. One victim was stabbed repeatedly until dead.
Authorities revealed he started stacking the bodies in the crawlspace as he ran out of room.
