An auspiciously named greyhound has offered some light relief for stressed Aussie punters in the midst of the coronavirus lockdown, with an uncannily timed winning run.
The racing dog named Corona Cold has clocked up two wins from its last two starts, after showing indifferent form over the first seven races of its career.
If you fancy a gamble it’s hard to find a single sport to invest your money in at the moment. However, the racing industry is still in full swing and if you are mad for an omen bet look no further than greyhound racing in Victoria.
Corona Cold was named after his trainer Chris Johannsen’s liking for a cold bottle of Corona beer, and not the virus that is shutting down the world.
The black Devon Meadows dog, has been racing since January this year but seems to have peaked as the coronavirus lockdown has taken effect, winning his last two starts over 400 meters.
It caught my eye after seeing the results at Warragul, in Victoria’s south-east last Tuesday (March 17, 2020), where it paid $14 and was one of the roughies in the race.

Racing again just on Tuesday, I could not resist an omen bet and placed a cheeky $5 on the greyhound, which I boosted the odds up to $10 before it came into $5.50 making it the third favourite in the race.
Starting from box number two he jumped mid-field, but thanks to the inside barrier managed to hit the lead in the early stages before the wider runners did and as soon as it hit the lead he wasn’t looking back and neither was I.
Corona Cold blitzed its rivals and won impressively as the others kept their distance from the pacy hound.

Corona Cold races again on Sunday at Sale in race nine.
Expect a tougher run as it is longer than 400 metres, but if he jumps well, each way odds should not let you down.
