Oscars: Two Aussies in the race

Two Australians are nominated for Academy Awards at the 2019 ceremony –  Fiona Crombie and Tony McNamara for their work on the historical comedy-drama The Favourite.

Crombie – who has previously done costume design for Macbeth, Top Of The Lake, Una and many other films – is nominated for Best Production Design. Crombie has a total of 12 major award nominations and six wins for her past work and is up for her first Oscar this year.

She comes into the Oscars with a win at the BAFTAs for her work on The Favourite.

McNamara is nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

He has won 28 awards and has been nominated another 31 times. His previous work ranges from The Rage In Placid Lake to the Australian TV classic Love My Way. Like Crombie, he found pre-Oscars success at the BAFTAs,  winning Best Original Screenplay for The Favourite.
